KK here is how u do it after bout hour looking and trying it w/ guildie!!!!

i am buyer by the way item i am buying is 100 ecto,so i must give u 100 ecto right (trade window is open)

FIRST:i have a stack of 101 ecto a stack of 101 bones and a stack of 1 ecto


now i put in window 100ecto, then take it out(bo not hit submit)
i put in 100 bones and hit submit and then modify and take those out
THEN put in your 1 ecto stack and it shows up 100 ecto's

if u do not believe there is a glitch i will buy anything u have for 249ecto
but u can PM me in game under X Green X and i will show u!!

We tested it now, and the way it works is:

place any quanitity of ectos, remove it, place the exact same quantity of something else.. Submit.

Now, modify, remove thematerial stack, place 1 ecto, submit. Other player sees the old stack number of ectos instead of just 1.

I am documenting the excat steps in hopes this will help ANet find the bug faster and fix it faster. In the mean time, I suggest people hold off on trading for stacks of ectos till this is fixed.

**Edit:

Ok, after further testing, a few more observations:

1) The ecto offered in the end has to be separate from the original ectos offered.
2) The number of ectos in the stack of ectos and other material do not have to match. I think the glitch is that, when one item is offered (i.e. there's no counter on the top right corner) it retains the count from the previous stack that was there. I think it's a display glitch.

Thanks Gaile. For now, also, an easy way to identify this scam is to not accept a modified offer that contains stacks. Simply close the trade window and re-open it. This scam cannot be carried out without modifying the offer.

As interesting as this bug is, I'm more interested in how long this bug has been around. I've heard many times people have complained about this very thing, a stack of ecto turning into one, and everyone passed them off as liars since they had no proof. Judging from the amount of people complaining, I wonder if a rollback is going to be a good idea? Any punishment for people who abused? Very interesting indeed.

I dropped into ToA a while ago, and the numbers are staggering. The "bots" are scoring huge from this.

Is it really though? This isn't just a scam, it's a bug being abused. If a bug affects a large number of people it would not surprise me if a rollback was done.

This only affects a few hundred people perhaps. The last rollback affected the entire game. Slight difference there.

Further information, after playing around with this a while in our guild. We've found that the most efficient way to do this is a stack on 1 ecto, and a stack of N+1 other items. The key is to make sure that when you offer the 2nd stack (i.e. the other items), you split them when you put them in the trade window (e.g. if you are holding 50 in your inventory, you only put at most 49 in the trade window). If you put the whole 2nd stack in the trade window it results in the correct amount of ecto being shown.

Yeah, let me pull out numbers from thin air too. You don't know how many people were affected. You can't possibly know. Nobody knows when this bug was introduced, discovered, anything of the sort. If you're going to make a point don't do it with fake numbers.

Uhh, yeah, a rollback does affect the whole game. This point makes no sense. If you mean the bug the rollback fixed affected the whole game, you're mistaken. Not everyone got rich from the trader resets. But how does getting rich from a trader reset, a bug, differ from getting rich by scamming somebody with a trade window exploit, a bug?

Yeah, I put an exact number in there and said it was definately that much. Give your head a shake. You have even less of a clue, yet you start calling for a rollback. Utterly ridiculous. Ten hours of downtime over something that will not affect a large majority of the game population? That sounds like a real good idea.
